Dave,
Did you finish off your seasoning by heating it up to 500 degees for 30 minutes? That is what turns mine black.

I did 500 for 15 minutes (I followed the process described here: http://www.castironcollector.com/seasoning.php).

Interestingly, after I wiped a small layer of oil on it after it cooled, it now looks more dark brownish.
