Another NJ stiff

Hi from NJ. I have been toying with the idea of good cast iron since I started blackening my striped bass catch many moons ago.

To make a long story short, I purchased a brand new Banjamin & Medwin 3 piece skillet set, seasoned them properly and got pretty good service out of them for a long time (probably too long).

Suddenly for whatever reason I decided I wanted a real set of CI. For a few weeks I partook in the ebay scene and researched each piece I found.

I finally decided to narrow my search to Griswold. I found a nice set of 5 skillets #9,#8,#6,#5 and #3 in a nice neat package. They are the large EPU block letters and have been completely restored and seasoned. I paid what I considered a fair price ($190 + shipping), while I am sure you folks may disagree ( I'd actually like to hear your opinions on it).

I started using them the minute I got them, for dinner last night I made a "skillet breakfast" for myself. And tonight I am cooking up a nice shrimp recipe I have found.

All that being said, I have already learned a ton here before I even registered, I appreciate the knowledge you folks put out there and someday I hope I can be a contributor.

Lovin my Griswolds !!:icon_thumbsup:

Welcome. It's hard to knock a man who's happy using what he's got. I don't think the price was bad at all if they all sit flat. Cheap surprise cast iron that may be pitted scares me off.

You probably could have scouted around in the wild for 6 months and found them for less, but not already restored. You were not robbed by any means.

Welcome to the forum.
You bring back memories of fishing bass & blues under the moon, many moons ago, on my boat of the surf.

As to my opinion, it really does not matters, yours does. If you are happy, then that is what really matters. Sounds like you are ready to cook up some nice meals.

Thumbs up on the Griswolds, enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome folks, there isn't a wobble or bow in the bunch.
