HELLO

NEW TO THE CAST IRON SCENE FROM THE PIEDMONT AREA OF NORTH CAROLINA...

Recently obtained/inherited a Lodge Grill/Griddle combo from parents... Taking it out of the box it looked like the "BEFORE with mild rust on the grill side and baked on crud on the griddle.... After a good cleaning with Kosher Salt, I seasoned it and put in oven on 350 for an hour.... the grill side was still a bit sticky so I put on self clean a couple days later and put in oven for about 45 mins and that got the sticky feel off. I want to strip the seasoning i put on it, clean again and season again.... any tips are appreciated.

I think Romunda hit the nail on the head. Seasoning improves with use.

Why do you want to strip the seasoning you applied? If you're determined to strip it, probably easiest way is with Easy Off (ensure it has sodium hydroxide listed as the main ingredient - not all Easy Off does), for a 1 off job. If the CI bug has bitten, just jump straight to the lye bath, per http://www.castironcollector.com/lyebath.php

A better way to take the seasoning off if you really feel you need to is to soak your pan in a solution of 1:1 vinegar/water it's all natural (no man made chemicals) have you ever heard of not lookin acidic things in your care iron an washin in soap made with lye. Vinegar has the same effect as lye as it eats organic material. I think folks in older days (our great grandparents time, they told an taught kids not to use homemade soaps on the face or get near mouth an eyes). Lye is used to take (sloth) off dead skin.

Was just using it as a reference type of thing especially if kids company or others kids might be around
