Plated bail

I'm going to strip an old Lodge #12 camp dutch oven in my lye bath.
Do I need to remove the bail before I do?
A magnet does stick to the bail so it's not stainless.
Will I damage the finish on the bail in the lye?

The bail should not be plated. Lye will not hurt.
