New from the Twin Cities

Hello all from a Minnesotan. I don't plan to be a collector, just a fairly regular user of a couple of cast iron pieces I recently acquired. I actually started with cast iron way back in the 1960's in South Dakota and continued when my wife and I returned to our Minnesota home in the mid-sixties. Somewhere along the line my assortment of cast iron disappeared, maybe during a garage sale.

Last year I acquired a Lodge 8-inch skillet and cover and then managed to bid on a 30's era Griswold 2505 from eBay. It wasn't until I did a bit of research that I found I had a nice piece, particularly if I ever was able to find the appropriate lid. However, prices on vintage cast iron on eBay are very high.

I'm also a hand tool woodworker having restored numerous vintage hand planes, chisels and saws. Hard to believe the number of similarities between cast iron and vintages tools. Opinions on how to best restore or use these tools are all over the place. Everyone seems to have the best opinion.

Hope to learn here. Thanks.

Welcome Chuck!! I didn't start out being a collector either. And I still don't consider myself one ... but how many #8's, or 7's, or 3's, does a guy really need? Ha! Good luck resisting the temptation!
