Hi from Marlton, NJ

Hi.
I am lucky enough to have most of my Mother's cast iron cookware. I use it on a regular basis. I had to give up the larger pieces when we downsized, but I would not give up my deep skillet and my 2 frying pans and my griddle.

Recently I was at an Estate Sale looking for something and came across an item. I have no idea what it is or would be used for, but since it is small and I negotiated it for $20.00 I bought it.

It is cast iron about 9"X5 the interior is porcelain lined. The bottom is stamped Lauffer Made in England

Does anyone know what it is or what it would be used for?

Thank you so much, I never would have thought of that because it's small and lined, but I did a web search and except that I can't see the interiors, mine looks like a mini version of the ones I found.

At the estate sale the woman in charged wanted to sell me a HUGE dutch oven, with lid, which was in a very rusty condition and this one for $100. I told her I didn't have the room for the dutch oven. I just couldn't leave this heavy little guy there.
 
As spurgeon mentioned that would be a nice deep fryer occasionally for that size. I think it would be great for smaller casseroles, beef or pork tenderloin, chicken legs and thighs, and making the gravy in same pot.

Think dinner for two. I would have brought the little guy home to, it had me thinking about what I'd cook in it myself.
 
Dittos, Steven C. I bet you could bake bread in that pan, too, Jude. I have an enameled small pot (about 2.5 qts.) and have recently been encouraged to use it by some of the ideas on this forum. It has a flat lid (good for storage of leftover), and is now my "go to" casserole dish.
 
Being lined, that is much better than an unlined saucepan for water based and acidic cooking. From here it is about a 2qt. that would be great for steaming asparagus, boiling and mashing potatoes, warming tomato sauces and soups and cooking with lemon or wine.

Sharon, as soon as you said bread, 9x5 is about ballpark for a loaf pan size. Now my wheels are turning. Griswold has a loaf pan with lid and this one would do nicely till I stumbled on to one. I think you won the Internet today for that suggestion.

Jude I think you got more bang for your buck than you originally thought, Imagination is your only limit.

Thank you so much! I have been experimenting with it. I made a small pork loin in it and now everyone has me thinking of so many other things to try.
