I have been using Cast Iron for about the last 15 years or so and I have been following the website for the last few years and have learned a lot. I started collecting pieces just for my personal use and it started to grow from there. (I'm sure that no one here knows what thats like):D

Today I found a piece at a flea market and have spent the last 5 hours trying to figure out what it is. I am slowing losing my mind.

I have discovered that it is a Scotch bowl and is probably pre 20th century. However, I have hit a wall and cannnot find any more information. The piece has a raised 3 HF in block script inside the (5" dia.) heat ring. Additionally, there is a gate mark inside the heat ring. The outside diameter (top) is 9".

Any direction that anyone can point me in would be greatly appriciated. Especially by my wife.

X2 what JMoss wrote. Some mystery pieces will still be mystery pieces, Lost to history.

But we all like some eye candy.

Looks to be a bottom gated #3 scotch bowl.
The H F, I could be wrong, but thinking it is a Highland Foundry Co, Boston

Thanks for the response.

That's kind of what I had thought. I was hoping to get confirmation and maybe some more history on the Highland Foundry. And maybe get an approximation on the date.
