My initial draw to cast iron was based on finding a healthy alternative to Teflon pans. Then, I learned to appreciate the durability of cast iron since most of my finds are older than me. I found a piece for $5 that interested me, a 10 1/2 inch chef skillet. It has thin walls and interior ground smooth. Looks like it might be a part of the Griswold Hearthstone series from the 1980's but is unmarked. Perhaps the walls of the pan were too thin. Any thoughts?

Rod,
Welcome. Don't have a definitive answer for your skillet in reference but initial thoughts is it's a reproduction piece most likely from China. If it seasons o.k. and cooks o.k. then stick with it and enjoy.
As you probably know by now there are a lot of old collectible pieces to be had and in time you will learn to I.D. them and know which ones to avoid.
