Hi,
I've lurked here off and on for a while, so hello now that I registered.
I'm not really thinking of collecting but considering the amount of cast iron I've dragged home lately I may have a problem...
I picked up a Puritan #8 waffle iron, pretty much the same as one in one of the series of pics in the reference section. It has no handles so I was wondering if anyone knows what they looked like when new, correct finish, etc. Pics and/or measurements would be great.
I was thinking of making some wire handles from 1/8" rod and eyebolts. Those 1/2" holes at the base of the handle look like a good spot to put some rod in with a hole to thread the eyebolt into. Or would this be too unoriginal? I snagged a 4' rod for $3.00 so I'm thinking of giving it a shot after the iron bits come out of the derust bath.
The iron is 2 1517s and a 1518 base if I recall. The other way around if not.
My favorites are a #8 BS&R skillet (picked up its twin this weekend for $5) and #8 no markings griddle. Its a heavy, clunky one but its flat and nothing sticks.
