SAD Iron

What is the appropriate finish for an iron? This has been in the family for at least 60 years and has been painted red as long as I can remember. We used it as a door-stop.

Japanning, bronze, or nickel plating were popular options Doubtful that paint, other than on handles perhaps, would have been original.

I didn't expect paint was original. My parents probably painted it to make it visible and not stub toes on it.

I got this iron today at an Estate Sale. I don't know much (if anything) about SAD Irons. Anyone have an idea of manufacturer or dates? Logo looks like a 7 inside a shield a bit like an interstate road sign.
