Mystery Pot with Lid

Picked up a pot with lid at an estate sale today. It's maybe 11 inches across and maybe 10 inches tall minus the lid. Somehow, it does not seem to be a dutch oven although it has a bail. It has 3 really stubby legs. It had been used as a flower pot and is REALLY rusty. No markings are visible at this point. It certainly has an OLD look to it.

What is this thing?

How long can I safely soak in vinegar and water? Some instructions say only 4 hours...

Sounds like some type of old footed kettle. It's best with vinegar to do the 50/50 for at most a couple hours, then scrub, rinse, and repeat as necessary. Leaving the piece soak for extended periods of time risks affecting good metal.

Much of the rust, at least on the outside, has been removed with vinegar/water. There are no markings. There seems to very little information on these. Some call it a cauldron, other refer to it as a bean pot.

Even with most of the rust gone, it still has a very old look to it. How can I learn more about it?
