Not Really a Collector. . .

I really do not really consider myself a collector. I just enjoy cooking with CI. I happened to find this site because I just refurbished to skillets I found in hidden in the weeds in a house I am renting. As the only CI I have are two modern Lodges and my great-grandmothers Griswold Dutch Oven (you can barely make out the seal on the cover), I was intrigued by the OP & CO 10 on one skillet and the Erie 701F on the other. This site helped with finding out something about the two skillets, however I am still looking for info on the OP & CO. Seems there is more info on #9s. Oh well. Plus I am always looking for recipes. Last night was skillet grilled butter potatoes and onions and today was skillet baked avocados and eggs. ;)

Welcome! If you keep hanging around here, you'll find yourself to be a collector before you know it. It just kinda happens :)

Pat, sometimes we start not as collectors but as users or curious people. The Orr Painter & Co. from Reading, PA is one of my favorite makes of skillets due to their light weight and fine casting quality. Probably made in the 1880s, you don't see a great number of them. Made in sizes 6 (mine was unmarked)-10 and maybe larger up to 11 or 12 but I don't think I have seen those sizes. Orr-Painter became Prizer-Painter in later years, not sure when.

Steve, thanks. That is good to know. They both look relatively old and are not as heavy (thin sides) as the modern Lodge ones I own. The Erie cleaned up pretty nice, but the OP&CO is on it's own schedule. But then again, I am pretty lucky to get one clean as I have no idea how long they were in the elements and they both looked pretty rugged.

John, that may be true and if it is, I better start figuring out more recipes or my wife will not be happy with my collection. They are great for cooking but a pain to store. I guess my next item with have to be waffle iron as waffles are her weakness.
