New to the forum and iron

This is all quite new to me. I became interested in vintage cast iron after taking up cooking this past year. So far this site has been a great resource and I'm looking forward to continuing the hunt for old cast iron.

Just starting out with this. I've had a few pans from my grandmother but I never knew what they were. Now, because of this web site, I know what they are. Thank you!
I came across a Martin Industries #4 yesterday and had a question about it. I have a MI #3 and love it. I live in Florence, AL where these were made and used to work there in the '80's & 90's. This #4 had the MI logo on it but the heat ring had notches at 9, 12, & 3 o'clock. I thought this notching was only done by Lodge. Do you know if Lodge made pans for Martin after they quit production?

Thanks.

The characteristic is certainly copied from Lodge. It may be possible a Lodge pan was used as a basis for a pattern, but doubtful as the handles on these Martin 3-notch are usually typical Martin. There are also DOs with the old TM that have notched heat rings. There hasn't been anything to indicate Lodge did casting for Martin; if such a story circulated, it's probably because of the outsource work Lodge did for BSR before they went out.
