Hello

I'm in S.E. Texas and enjoy cast iron cooking. I'm not really a collector, rather a user of cast iron. I've been around it all my life. We regularly use my mother's #10 Griswold that she got back in the '40s. It occupied a prominent place in our kitchen and I have eaten a ton of fried chicken, pork chops, bacon, eggs and pancakes made in it. We also use a #10 Wagner I got back in the '70s. I just added a #10 Spider and a 2-1/2 qt. bean pot with lid for the deer lease. I joined to learn more about this great old cookware. On New Year's day, we cooked a pot roast in the Griswold chicken fryer. Afterwards, my wife remarked how she loved that piece. I really appreciated cast iron and love to use it.

Welcome aboard Glen. There is lots to learn here, make the most of it.

I live in Kemah, just South of Houston. What part of Texas are you from?

Jack

Yes, I knew the place. Its closed now but I think its the same guy that opened Allens Swamp Shack at the foot of the Kemah bridge.

I hunt in the Beaumont area regularly. Pretty slim pickins....are you getting all the iron? PM me if you want to swap information on places to hunt for iron.

In Beaumont, you don't have a lot of selection--I think the first Monday of the month Larry's flea market is open in Winnie--its kinda degenerated into modern day stuff. Up north is where you want to look--Buna, Kirbyville and places like that. If I were you, I'd think about going 146 to Dayton and then 321 to Cleveland. Watch for places--been a while since I went that way. Between Cleveland and Conroe there used to be a lot of places--flea market types with good stuff in it.

Thanks Glen.

I go to Larrys regularly. You are right, its hit or miss. I've been to Buna, Lumberton, Deweyville and some places in between. Only found one place with as much iron as I do and it was expensive.

I'll try the Dayton and Crosby area this weekend unless something else comes up.
