What a cool site! I had no idea there was this much interest in cast iron or that I'd be able to find this much information. I'm not a collector, but now my interest is piqued.

This morning a friend posted a recipe on Facebook that required using a cast iron skillet. I inherited a couple pans quite a few years back, but they've just been sitting in the garage gathering dust in a box. I decided to go down and get them and see about cleaning them up, seasoning them, and using them. That led me to this site. From what I can tell the two pans are from the 1930's. One is a Wagner Chicken Fryer with lid and the other is a Lodge #10 also with a lid. They are both nice and smooth, without rust or cracks. I don't think I want to sell them, in fact I just appreciate them a lot more now that I know what they are. I am curious what their monetary value is, though. Can anybody tell me how I go about finding that out?

Right now, they are coated with oven cleaner and wrapped up in plastic bags. Tomorrow, I will get them all cleaned up and start the process of seasoning them.

I'm looking forward to delving further into this site to learn more about my new found treasures and also looking forward to trying some new recipes!

Thanks,
Scott

There might be a better way to value them that someone else will chime in about. I just google search look at prices being offered, then look on eBay for prices SOLD. Then gather a median price. Most of the time people want an outrageous amount on esty and ebay.. There are 2 books you can buy but I haven't spent the $60 on them. Or checked if I can cheat and find them on google books. And don't go by a few collector website you'd find by a google search with 100s of pans. Crazy prices...!

Keep them lids looking good. Those are what I'm struggling to find at a down to earth price. And remember they are just the same as the skillet burn your fingers in a instant! Cooking with them for over a year and I still haven't caught 100% on to that sometimes. Burnt fingers last night haha..

Welcome to the site SWirkus! Those are great skillets for everyday use. Once you get then cleaned up and seasoned you will likely find yourself using them more than your current pans.

Curious minds want to know, what was the recipe that motivated you to dig them out of the basement? :)
