newb here. I've been lurking for a week or so.

I have set up my first E-tank, done my first pan, and have the 2nd in the tank.
I'm 65 and have all of my mothers pans, and a few not belonging to her. I thought it would be interesting to see if I could identify the pans, as well as cleaning them up for use.

I appreciate all of the friendly advice, this is my first venture into CI restoration.thanks for having me.

Welcome Peter. I'm sure you will find a lot of useful advice and information here. I too am new and am continually amazed by the knowledge and willingness to help/share.

BTW, you mentioned electrolysis. What about a lye bath? Are you also using that?

Wally.....nope...I have not done the lye bath as yet. This is my first week of doing restoration. I'm limping along with a 40 year old KMart charger, (soon to be replaced).

Have you tried lye...?

Peter, I followed the directions Doug outlined in the Cast Iron Restoration.....Using Lye section of this site. I bought a 20 gal. trash can (note the warnings about UV sensitivity). Filled it with 10 gal. of water and emptied the entire 2 lb. container of lye crystals into the water. Make sure the crystals are dissolved and then give your precious tool, several days of relaxation at the lye "spa". You can treat several pieces at the same time. So far I have only treated skillets and can use coat hangers to raise/lower them into the spa. After I lower them into the spa, I just hang the dry end of the hanger onto the rim of the trash can and put on the lid.
