Hello Folks
Just a short intro here.
I am a newbie at collecting CI but not so newbie age wise
. Retired computer analyst, since 2003. I am single (divorced many years) and live on a small acreage near the lake with my little fox terrier Ringo. I do enjoy all the opportunity I get to photo the abundant wildlife I have here sharing my little space. I spent 7 years in the USMC and spent 2 of that touring the beautiful vacation land of northern South Vietnam.
I have been reading the forums this morning and have just already learned a great deal. Amazing and awesome info available here! The site so far is really impressive and I look forward to not only identifying some of my pieces but also learning more about ID and how to best pick out those pieces that are worthy of collecting.
I do have one huge, old cauldron that belonged to great, great grandmother but no one of the few remaining family members knows what they used it for on the old homestead. I can barely lift the old thing and need to clean it up to look for any kind of markings. It bit me this morning when I was moving it and got my finger pinned between that heavy handle and the side of the pot. Will probably be posting a photo and asking for help on it once I get it cleaned up looking for trademarks or foundry marks. I did read one post asking for help on identifying and dating one pot and one member indicated based on the particular feet on bottom, it was probably from the 1700s. My big cauldron has very similar, if not same feet on it so I am anxious to get more info on it.
I'm thankful for the site and look forward to chatting with some of you more knowledgeable members in the future.
Thanks in advance!!
John
