Hello from Florida!

I am on a quest to search out information for my daughter-in-law's Christmas present. She inherited a set of BSR Red Mountain skillets from her grandmother last year - #3,5, and 8. When I asked what she wanted for Christmas she said she would like to find a #12 Red Mountain BSR skillet in decent shape to go with her set. I have been looking around and decided to come here in the hopes that the experts can tell me what the odds are of finding what I am looking for! Is there a forum I can post in for information about finding a particular item? Here in Florida they don't seem to be as abundant, so I am using the Internet for my search. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome.

Internet shopping for vintage CI is pretty much luck of the draw. With time you can likely find one but in time for Christmas might be a bit challenging. And then finding one that isn't overpriced is even more so.

I have the most luck finding internet CI on ebay and etsy. This forum has a very useful ebay search tool in the links across the top.

Unfortunately an ebay search right now doesn't turn up any #12. There are a few #10 that you might consider, though - the #10 is actually about 12" diameter, a traditional "large skillet" size. I have both a #10 and a #12 and I find the #10 much more useful; the unwieldiness of the #12 isn't worth the small amount of extra diameter you get.

Etsy has a #12 with matching lid listed right now. It is BSR's Century series, not Red Mountain, though, and it was made after the switch to automation. It's also premium-priced.

Good luck with your search.

Thank you for the tips, Eric! You are confirming what I thought. I have been watching Etsy and Ebay and will continue my searches there. I saw a post someone on this site had with a picture of a #12, so at least I know they exist. She may have to wait, but I will eventually find one! :)

With a #10 one is pushing the size limit for even heating on a normal stove burner. For a #12, I have to use a diffuser to get heat to the outside of the cooking surface and there is still a lot of variation from the center to the outer edges. She may not know it yet, but I think your DIL would be much happier with a #10.

She has one #10 that she found, but it is not in the best shape. Perhaps I will just look for a #10 that is in better condition to replace the other. Good suggestion - thank you!

I agree with Hilditch -- I use my #10 way waayyyyy more. I only use my #12 once in a very great while and then only in the oven. Too big for the stovetop.
