I am new to this but I have been using CI that I got from my grandmother. I didn't know what they were until I found this web site. Now I know what they are. Thank you!
I am interested in Martin Industries pans because I live in Florence, AL where they were made, and I used to work for Martin in the 80's & 90's. I have a #3 Martin that I use a lot.
I came across a Martin #4 recently that had the Martin logo on it but the heat ring had three notches on it at 9, 12, & 3 o'clock. Could this have been made by Lodge? If so, when did Lodge make pans for Martin. The two factories were only about 100 miles apart.

Thanks,

John

Welcome John. I believe Doug answered your question in the other thread:

The characteristic is certainly copied from Lodge. It may be possible a Lodge pan was used as a basis for a pattern, but doubtful as the handles on these Martin 3-notch are usually typical Martin. There are also DOs with the old TM that have notched heat rings. There hasn't been anything to indicate Lodge did casting for Martin; if such a story circulated, it's probably because of the outsource work Lodge did for BSR before they went out.

When I first saw one, I thought it was a fake but they're not. Not rare, just HTF.

Thanks, Doug and Scott,

I couldn't find that first note because I don't really know how to get around here yet. I really appreciate your comments, Doug. It's great for a rookie like me to be able to ask questions. I look forward to learning a lot more.
