Hi folks. Have a few pieces of CI that have been sitting around. Decided to start cleaning them up and making them presentable/usable again. Looks like I came to the right place. I am looking forward to learning more about vintage pieces, and seeing what other folks have.

Hi, Wayne! Have you read the stuff on the home page regarding restoring? If not, there is some really good advice and some important "don't"s there.
 
Thank, Dan. Yes, I have read the restoration info on the home page. I started there. Seemed like a good place to begin. I have started by cleaning a #3 skillet that has been sitting in the drawer under my oven for quite a while. Used oven cleaner, left it sitting for three and a half days. Cleaned up really well. It is currently in the oven, getting a second round of seasoning. Figured I would start with one that did not seem to be anything special. Have a Wagner #3 coated with oven cleaner (HD Easy Off) right now. I have some bigger pieces too. Thought it would be wise to start small.

I think I did maybe three pans with oven cleaner before I sprang for a 1 lb can of lye and an $8 (I think) Rubbermaid tub. So much cheaper and easier if you will be doing more than one or two. Consider it. The only downside I can see is the potential risk if you have kids or pets around. I do not, yet I still put a strip of duct tape on the tub with the words, "DANGER: CAUSTIC LYE" written in Sharpie. I don't want somebody finding out the hard way.
