Hello and Identification Help

Hello all,

Long time fan, first time poster. Greetings from Georgia. I have around 10 pieces of cast iron (2 new, the rest passed down or picked up along the way) and I recently purchased a used Erie #22 bread stick pan. It looks exactly like the Griswold / Erie #22 p/n 954 variation #4 in the pictures at the following link ("Erie No. 22" on both curved handles) but does not have "954" on the bottom or anywhere for that matter.

Would this mean that it is a pre-Griswold Erie or just a different variation? Any help identifying it / dating it would be much appreciated!

As noted on that website, there are several variations of the #22 bread stick pan. I would have to look in the Haussler book to see if there is one shown that does not have a pattern number. A variation with no p/n is feasible, as there are 2 early series of Erie skillets that do not have them. Erie pieces are Griswold, although it seems every eBay seller wants to call Erie "pre-Griswold".

Thanks Doug and apologies for the misnomer. I tend to view them more as brands than a company. By "pre-Griswold," I meant to say "post-Selden & Griswold / pre-Griswold's Erie." Thanks for your patience with a rookie.

I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd check the Haussler book for me. My library doesn't have it, but I do plan on tracking it down to purchase soon!

Thanks again Doug.

The yellow book shows a #22 variation 4 as having Erie No. 22 on the top of both handles and no p/n. Rarity is given as 1 (least rare on a 1 to 10 scale). Book value, considered high vs. today's values, is given $50-70.

Thanks Doug! Does it happen to give any production dates on the #22 variation #4? I'm definitely keeping / cooking with the pan so I care more about its story than its street value.

Thanks all again.

It is believed that Griswold started using pattern numbers on Erie skillets in the 1890s, so, we may be able to assume the same is true of other Erie pieces.
