Favorite Aluminum skillet

My brother gave me a heavily goo-ed up aluminum skillet. I would normally soak in lye but being aluminum, I have not done that. A) Anyone know anything about aluminum Favorite skillets and B) how do I get the caked up goo off? It's on there like it was made that way.

are you sure it is both Favorite Piqua and Aluminum? Because I'm not aware of Favorite doing anything with aluminum.
 
Check under More cast metal ware /plated finish ware, at the bottom of the page, gallery of nickel and chrome plated pieces. The first picture is of a nickel plated Favorite/miami skillet. This whole site is a wealth of information if you will just look.
