I think it's a bowl, what do you think?

I bought this just for the curiosity factor. It is a cast iron bowl, 8 7/8 inch diameter and 1 5/8 inches tall.

Raised lettering on the side, n36.05.05 - Q80k. Nothing on the bottom. Can't tell if the surface was ever polished.

Anybody know what it is?

Definitely different and nothing I've ever seen before. For some reason it makes me think of something that would have been used in an institution/prison. No clue, of course, as to it's actual use/purpose.
