Favorite Ware Mess

I've got a Piqua Favorite Ware Skillet that was enameled. However the enamel is damaged beyond repair. Is it possible to remove the enamel without using some mechanical method that would damage the iron under the enamel? I have had this pan for a while now, hoping I could figure out a way to resurrect the pan. The only thing I can think to do is sandblasting it, however I would like to preserve the integrity of the cast iron under the enamel.

You might get electro at a higher than normal amperage (40 or 50A) to get it to release. Lye is probably going to just etch it (not that it would be evident).

I was afraid you'd say that. I'm not yet set up for electro. My oven self cleans at 575F. So I use it to burn the crud off and elbow grease to derust. That pan had so much carbon build up that I could not tell it was enameled. I now knock some of the caking off before run it through the oven. Don't want to ruin another pan.
