Default Boiling Lye?

I used to clean my traps by Boiling them in lye water. I wonder if that would clean cast iron better and faster?

Default Re: Boiling Lye?

A warmer lye solution cleans iron faster than a colder one of the same strength. Not sure I'd want to mess with it at boiling, though.
