Looks mid 30s and into the 40s maybe. Would have had a smooth high dome cover or the same the the TM on top of the cover.

Default Griswold #8 Dutch oven

Picked this up today can anyone tell me when it was made it has a raised letter lid

Don't know much about griswold but here's the top any help would be helpful

So the lid isn't original then?

John's DO is p/n 1278 which takes a 1288 cover. The cover you have John came with the Griswold dutch oven made just previous to the pot you have. They fit and work just fine together but were not born at the same time. If your cover has pattern number 837 the matching pot would be 833.

The lid is a 2551B

That must be the later cover for the 833 dutch oven. My cross listing is not too sophisticated to show me many of the variations of pattern numbers used and I don't play with these pots much anymore to remember it all.

Keeping track of what goes with which will drive you crazy. I have this lid, also a 2551 but earlier, which should go with a slant TM "ERIE" 833, one of which I found hunting iron today-- cracked.
