BSR Markings

I found this skillet, quite crusty, with all the identifying marks of a BSR red mountain. Once cleaned up however, the markings on the back are uncharacteristic. Small, neat, "typed" numbers and...

Chicken Foot Wapak

Proud new owner of the elusive chicken foot. Found it at a fairly large antique mall in Florida. Recalling a post I happened to have read recently about this particular logo, I knew this was...

Skillet ID

I found a rusted and broken skillet that looked just like these the other day. Didn't recognize the maker, anyone?

Griswold's Erie #8

So this is my first Erie piece and I probably overpaid for it, but seeing it cleaned up, no regrets here. Just finished initial few rounds of seasoning and can see there's some work to do to fill in...

Erie Griddle Part Number

All the Erie griddles I've seen have part numbers on them. Anyone know why this one doesn't?

Re: Griswold's Erie Value

This is the eBay post of where I bought it. I haven't received the item yet so this is all I have to go on so far.

Griswold's Erie Value

Recently caught a no. 8 Griswold's Erie (marked 704H) for a price that seamed too good to be true. Described to "sit flat with no cracks or pitting". It's quite crusty but the pictures look very...

Re: Need help identifying a pan

Probably not identifiable. Most major brands came around after gate marks were already phased out.

Re: After Intl Seasoning

The following is just my personal method and is by no means "the best way" it just works for me.

After removing the piece from my e-tank, scrubbing with a stainless chore-boy until a consistent...

Re: Skillet #9

You're right. The handle reminds me of Vollrath but nothing else about it does.

Re: Skillet #9

My best guess would be a recast of a fifth gen Erie. Better pictures would help though. Look into using Imgur for posting pictures.

Re: Your Thoughts on Cooking with Early Vs Later Griswolds

I personally feel a bit too nervous to use my "thin" pans. Cornbread and eggs are about the only things I use my early Wagner for.

Re: Today's buys

Would love to see that Favorite cleaned up. If you're anything like me, it's going to become your daily driver. (Mine is a #8 though)

Re: Raised Numbers/marks

Edgar got it. Lodge or maybe Blacklock. Still not sure how to tell the difference between the two.

Re: Help in Identifying This Mark. (Raised KEYHOLE)

The 3 notches in the heating are essentially always a dead giveaway that it's a Lodge. Some Asian pieces will also have notches in the heat ring but the differences between and old Lodge and an Asian...

Re: Question About Cleaning Burnt Food Residue.

Make sure you keep enough of a layer of fat in the pan while you're cooking. Also, clean in out as soon as you finish cooking something, while the skillet is still hot (be careful obviously). Add a...

Re: Is Cast Iron Difficult to Find in Your Area?

Here in North Florida Wagner is most common. A not too close second would be BSR, then Griswold and Favorite, Lodge and Vollrath are rare but appear occasionally. Never seen a Wapak or Chicago around...

Re: Wagner National #9

Very true. I have a smiley #8 that I use for my egg fryer. Took next to no seasoning and eggs slide around like it's oiled glass. Also, those National pans are definitely the lightest skillets I've...

Re: Dating Vollrath

My first was a smooth bottom #5, I think I might have been the person who posted those pictures a few weeks ago. Also have one with a heat ring as well as an enameled one with a logo.

Re: National #8

Got it cleaned up, no other marks were uncovered, just NATIONAL at the 12 o'clock, B in the center, and 9 at the 6 o'clock. Also, with the crud cleaned off, she's a spinner... Disappointing

Re: National #8

Just checked on it, has a ways to go but it uncovered the size number which is actually a #9 not 8 as I originally thought. Guess I should've figured that out when it didn't fit in my e-tank as...
