Batting 1000

Early in February, I had picked up a vintage Lodge dutch and did a full strip and re-season. I've done bacon, a roast, ribs, eggs over hard, scrambled eggs, and last night, finally a whole chicken. ...

Loving My New-to-me Lodge Dutch Oven!

Last month I picked up a dutch oven in downstate Illinois from a farm estate while in town for a wedding. I probably overpaid, but it had a trivet and a cool lid. I reseasoned it and finally got to...

Re: Unknown Dutch Oven - #8

I appreciate the insights! After getting delayed cleaning it up, I've started seasoning it as of last night.

Re: Unknown Dutch Oven - #8

OK so Lodge is definitely how we're leaning. I appreciate all the info - I'm very much new to this. Any idea of an age, or no?

Here's the only view I have of the pot upside down:...

Re: Unknown Dutch Oven - #8

Lodge on the pot and trivet? Lodge or Martin on the lid? Is it an oddball Lodge lid, or just a Martin lid on a lodge pot?

Re: Unknown Dutch Oven - #8

I'm not sure how the handle is held in place. There are no markings on the underside of the lid from attachment. The handle looks to be a slightly different color than the lid, but I see no means...

Re: Unknown Dutch Oven - #8

Here are more and better photos. Thanks for looking! There are no other markings other than shown and mentioned below. I've started cleaning the old crud off, and the underside of the lid shows...

Re: Unknown Dutch Oven - #8

I will definitely get better photos tonight, these were just ones I snapped last night after driving 950 miles home last night.

I can get more tonight if need be.

Here's the underside of the lid:

Spotted a Husqvarna Panna #1 This Weekend

Spotted a Husqvarna Panna #1 this weekend - seemed to be a nice #8 sized pan.

We were downstate Illinois and I can try to find the shop name if you're interested. I consider myself a newbie, but...

Unknown Dutch Oven - #8

It seems like it might be an unmarked lodge - it's a #8 with lid and trivet. Trivet primary marking is just a "6" cast in, with a couple other #s in different spots - mold#s?) The lid has pointed...

Re: Unknown Pan, Can You Help ID It?

If it's like the other one I saw online with better photos, it appears to have a raised 7 cast into the handle. Only marks on it that I can tell.

Re: Unknown Pan, Can You Help ID It?

Thanks! I did some more searching online and saw a similar one with the gate mark. When I looked closer at the one I'm trying to win, I could see the gate mark faintly on the bottom. I haven't won...

Unknown Pan, Can You Help ID It?

Hi Everyone, I'm relatively new to cast iron, but have a pair of BSRs and a Lodge. Nothing fancy but don't know what to make of this one -- I think it's older because of the heat ring - unsure...

Re: Tell us about your goals for your collection

I don't know that I'm a collector per se, only have 2 pieces and started this year. First was a #8 BSR pan, then a #8 lodge pan. I'm curious to restore a waffle iron, don't care about the brand, it...

Re: 1930s BSR vs Lodge

I'm certain my BSR is the pre-automation based on my original research when I got it. I just was commenting at the difference in weight between the two. I'm happy with them both, and definitely...

1930s BSR vs Lodge

Hi all:
I've picked up my 2nd cast iron piece last week, a 1930's Lodge #8 skillet, and did refinish on it. It wasn't nearly as gnarly as the BSR I bought in the past year. My first cooking with it...

Re: Newb in Texas with a BSR ID question

Success! I did a half dozen seasonings with flax oil, tried some light cooking then on Sunday I did three eggs over hard with just a bit of margarine. No sticking, very smooth surfaces.

Heres how...

Re: Newb in Texas with a BSR ID question

I finally got the last of the carbon off - the worst of it was on the outside edges. It's very smooth and clean, and I've currently got a few coats of organic flax oil baked onto it. A couple more...

Re: Advice Requested

It looks like a thick coating, like someone melted lead in it - but I would think that would come up very easily with 60-grit. Out of curiosity I mention this, but sometimes I find finer sandpapers...

Re: Newb in Texas with a BSR ID question

Will do - are the inside vertical sides considered polished too? I'm surprised at how smooth the bottom is - the only other time we had a cast iron pan years ago it was your typical modern one and we...

Re: Newb in Texas with a BSR ID question

I'll give the electrolysis another try tonight - I think I just wasn't getting enough of an electrical contact with it. I've got about 90% of the carbon off it and I can just make out the machining...

Re: Newb in Texas with a BSR ID question

I'm in New Braunfels between San Antonio and Austin. THanks for the link.

The electrolysis did not seem to remove much - hard time getting a good electrical connection too. Oven cleaner has 80%...

Re: Newb in Texas with a BSR ID question

Ah thank-you, I had read that a while back but for some reason my memory thought the Century series changes were the post 1960's changes.
Very cool - I like old - am not worried about value, but age...
