Ok. They are soaking in a lye tank for now, so in a week or so they may be clean and I will post some more pictures. The markings were so shallow, that taking a picture of the full bottom surface...

The logic is beeswax is the main ingredient. And, so far, no experience with rancidity on my Crisbee seasoned iron. I cannot explain it any simpler than that.
