Re: Wagner Waffle Iron Restoration

Your handles look to be in great shape. Honestly, I unscrewed mine from the paddles and just did what I had to. They went back on nice and tight after I was all done, easy peasy. Mine looked to be...

Re: Seasoning not sticking/burning off?

Just thought I'd drop a picture. You can see the darker edge around the rim. That was where the flax didn't burn off. The lighter inside is where it all came off.

This pan isn't the "purtiest",...

Re: Is this pan valuable?

As long as its not warped, You have a great user there. Clean it and use it on some campfire cookouts, unless you have a stove that can handle it. Or just use it as a in oven only piece. No matter...

Re: Used oil for seasoning?

Frankly, since I have my jar of bacon fat renderings next to the stove, that's what I use to season with now. Small dab on a clean paper towel, wipe down and season away!

All seems well so far.

Re: Is this one of those - you get what you pay for?

Just use it, deep fry some fish and chips.

When all done, wipe out the pot as dry as possible, then place it in your oven At 350F for about 20 minutes, take it out and give it one more wipe down....

Re: Sauce Pan?

Once used for lead smelting, I'd never trust it again. How deep into the cast iron pores has the lead settled, even at the molecular level.

My advice, use it as a decorative piece from now on. Get...

Well, I consider all my pans and iron, users.

I'd fill i as carefully as possible with brass, season pan, and enjoy a lifetime of use.

Re: The Mercury Myth and other such things

HMM, not heard anything about mercury in cooking cast iron.
I have certainly heard and seen lead smelted in cast iron cookwear. That's a problem if it's not disclosed or cast iron marked...

NORM!

He'd eat a cat, as long as it's cooked in onions and garlic!

Not sure if Smart n Final stores are nationwide, just go there and get a gallon of commercial grade oven and grill cleaner. Really cost effective, you just use a tub and when finished, funnel it back...
