Re: #4 Skillets

pretty much any #4 is worth $20... the slant erie seems to be more common than the large block with heat ring... but still not nearly as common as all the other sizes.... you don't just stumble...

Re: BSR 7S with Ghost 6

There's a guy who sets up at the Nashville Flea Market once a month (he's from Georgia) who sells only cast iron... I had stopped in and looked at what he had on display (and for sale) on saturday...

BSR 7S with Ghost 6

the 7S markings were visible when I got it... but I found the ghost 6... in an odd position for BSR, after cleaning it up.

Re: 1820'S H & Co. 6 Pint's No. 3 Iron Kettle

I would just like to be the first to say that I'm amazed that you found any legible markings on there at all. wow.

Re: Great Finds!!!

yes, I agree... very good prices. and good pieces... which is the part I seem to be having trouble with these days... not finding any 'good' pieces for sale... plenty of three notch lodge and BSR...

Re: Great Finds!!!

if you don't mind sharing, what were the 'fair' prices... because you got some really nice pieces...
that 11 would normally sell for $200 - 250...is it normal skillet depth or deeper (like a...

Re: Gate Marked and Enameled ?

If you read on the history of vollrath, they were perfecting enameled cast iron back in the 1860's and 70's... so gate marked and enameled aren't that rare... although once the enamel was cracked and...

Re: John Savery’s DO

given the age of that thing I don't think the pitting would bother me much at all... turned out really nice. much better than the sad neglected rusty before pics!

Re: #4 Griswold Price Differences

I think the number of people who collect the enamel pieces is much smaller than people who collect plain iron... and enamel pieces have to have almost perfect enamel or the value drops off pretty...

Re: #4 Griswold Price Differences

Griswold didn't make a size 4 in every series... and some are 'less common' than others... these are roughly in order by value/rarity

block EPU with heat ring
wooden handle
slant erie with heat...

Re: Finally, Some Cast Iron

I'd say they were bargains... arc lodge and erie are usually close to $75 each... and if the 4 in 1 is hammered those usually sell close to $100.

Re: Wagner #6 question

my personal opinion was that foundries were always trying to balance material costs (thicker vs thinner castings) with losses from damage either in the manufacturing process or in transit to stores...

Re: John Savery’s DO

solid is good... I've had issues in the past with stranded wire and heat (I assume resistance) and bad connections... who has 1 inch plate steel just laying around? yeah that might be a bit...

Re: Weekend Score

I see some outside heat rings there in the front and at least one chef skillet... and a LOT of iron... can't believe someone was scrapping that much usable cookware!

Re: John Savery’s DO

(is there wire running around the outside connecting the rebar?)

Re: Maslin Kettles

yeah a #12 would probably be kind of unusual (I know I've never seen one that big)... so that's probably a pretty good rule. I'd pay more for a #12 in good condition than the more common 7 or 8...
