Mystery #9

I found this #9 today, has what looks like a small 373 on the bottom. Maybe a 378 or 379, based on my research, but I already dropped it in the lye tub. The prognosis seems very good for it to be an...

Re: Griswold Slant Erie

$37.50 and they took 10 % off. #11's are hard to find, I've only found one, a block/straight "Wagner".

Griswold Slant Erie

I didn't exactly steal this one, but it was a more than fair price, and I almost never find a slant Erie.

Sperry Griddle

I have no idea who gave this an F, but it'll be an A+ when it's stripped of that old seasoning.

#9 Slant EPU Skillet

I snagged this today, it was $25 but I asked if they'd take any off. They went down 10%, I hope that doesn't make me a bad person. It sits flat, seems a bit heavy for early Griswold though.

Re: 10 Chef skillet

It cleaned up great, I think that spot was a minor casting flaw. It's barely noticable now that it's seasoned. The surface is all swirled out from being polished smooth, very pretty.

Re: 10 Chef skillet

I was just clowning, I knew it was BSR and something good.

10 Chef skillet

I think I got ripped off, the tag said this is a #10 skillet. It's only about as big as a #8, and doesn't even have hardly any pour spouts. It says 10 Chef on the bottom, with the weird handle I hope...

Unidentified cornstick pan.

Doesn't have any markings on the bottom. Seems like a decent casting, haven't come across the style before.

Re: Three notch #9 Lodge.

I found another one on craigslist, but it was over 2 hours away. It had a small SK but no other markings, pour spouts were still fairly full sized. I just don't get up to Des Moines that often,...

Re: Help with the brand

If he paid too much...I'd be worried that $15 makes it a felony theft. Hammered cast iron, even the ugly unknowns, seems to be pretty hot stuff. Vintage Lodge is pretty hot in its own right, let...

Re: Three notch #9 Lodge.

Um, yea, when I sell the set I'll just be scrupulously honest like always. "Yea the #9 is a spinner, have fun finding a better one."

Re: Any quesses?

The lack of description, calling it a good user, I wonder how bad the wobble is.

Re: Three notch #9 Lodge.

He got me for a spinner, a wobbly one at that, the dirty dog. But other than that it'll fill out the set well. I probably would have gotten it in the wild anyway for that price and the scarcity,...

Re: Neat Waffle Iron with early patent heat diffuser plate

I'd think an 1892 patent date. I had that same waffle iron, seems I was told it was one of their first patterns. It had the same sloping base too, more elegant than the later ones with a trough.

Plymouth Iron Foundry tea kettle.

Found this massive beast today, first piece of Massachusetts iron I've come across. The lid is easily removable and seems to be designed so, has a gate mark and a pat'd 1868 date.

Re: Any quesses?

Good points, and I steal them far more than I'm ever soaked for one, so it's all relative. I also really dig the font of those numbers, they almost look like runes.

Re: Any quesses?

That is just what I'm looking for to go with my unmarked #7 and #8. How bad would I be getting soaked at $75 is the question.

Re: Three notch #9 Lodge.

I did but got no reply, so I took the plunge. It seemed a safe gamble that it's not cracked or warped, and it looks like it'll strip down nicely. I did message them to please pack it well, from the...

Three notch #9 Lodge.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/351790551300?ul_noapp=true

I don't think I did too badly, even for fee-bay, this is a #9 that doesn't seem to turn up often. It's all the sweeter since it will fill the one...

Re: Bridge Beach & Co, St Louis #7 Waffle Iron.

I found them earlier, they asked to use my pictures. I'm hazarding a guess this is a really early piece.

Re: Martin DO

I found a Martin DO without lid once, but I knew my uncle had a lid so I was set. I found a #5 Martin skillet today, recently posted, and I have a #9 Martin skillet.

Re: Bridge Beach & Co, St Louis #7 Waffle Iron.

It was a St. Louis foundry day at that shop, found the Excelsior in the same store. It's really great to find such gems as steals when cast iron is getting insanely overpriced, sure helps when it's...
