The good, the bad, and the good

The Good ... I found a #8 large block griswold at a thrift store, it was very crusted, but for 15 bucks I thought why not. The Bad ... After being cleaned I found the bottom to be very pitted. The good ... the cooking surface is very smooth, it seasoned well and it sits flat, looks like I now have a new griswold "user".

I believe that the pitting on this pan being concentrated in the center is not from rust but from being used on an open fire, would you agree?

Sulfur pitting from use over a coal fire or from a sulfur containing gas supply. The burning of it actually creates sulfuric acid which dissolves the metal. I have one just like it; it was my grandmother's.
