How to season waffle iron with bakelite handles

Hello, I am new to all this and would love some advice. I recently inherited my grandmother's waffle iron. I don't know exactly when it was made, but maybe the 1950s or 60s? It is branded ULEFOS which is a Norwegian manufacturer (my grandmother was Norwegian). It is cast iron with bright red handles, a classic five hearts interior. I followed directions on this site and soaked it in molasses, and it looks much better now, although not perfect (as seen in the picture). It also now needs seasoning and I'm not sure how to season it since I assume I cannot hold it in a 350 oven because of the bakelite handles.

Any advice would be appreciated. I do not have a gas stovetop or woodburning stove either, although I do have a firepit.

If you intend to use, it, I would say just proceed in whatever manner to make waffles with it. That would require some oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking, and over time a polymerized layer will build up. Apply and wipe off a thin layer on the outside of the casting as well. If all you wish to do is rust-proof it and display it, a wipe down and wipe off of a thin layer of food grade mineral oil will suffice.
