Another question. Grate marks.

I have several skillets with a single grate mark on them. Only 1also has a raised #8 on the bottom and 2 have a raised 6 on top of the handle. Any ideas on the maker or years produced. Someone mentioned they were primitive, early 1800's. As always all feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks

"Gate" marks, on skillets anyway, generally mean earlier than around 1880. Without a maker's name on them, knowing who made them and/or exactly when is usually impossible. Sometimes certain design features point to a region or time period of origin, but we would need photos to make those types of guesses.
