I just received a pot today and I’m having a little trouble putting a date range on it.
The ears are of round section and curve gently into the shoulder of the pot which points towards late 18th century. The legs are heavy and of D section which also points towards late 18th century.
What I’m having the most trouble with is determining the form of the pot. I’m not sure if it should be called shallow bellied or squashed, or something else. I’m leaning towards squashed which would be the latest feature and, according to the gray book, would put it about 1830 or after.
I do understand that there is a lot of overlap in the different types of ears, legs, forms, etc though. Input from someone with a more experienced eye would be appreciated. Thanks.
