A little confused

Or maybe just uneducated...
I'm looking at a #12 Wagner Sydney O with the arc straight logo in the high position. But instead of the size number like I was expecting it has the 4 digit catalog number. This seems to be a contradiction as to the time of casting. Or is there more that I need to learn?
Thanks.

Patterns were expensive to make. Apparently adding the c/n to an older style pattern, even a working pattern, was preferable to trashing it. I think I know the one you're looking at. A shame it's not in better condition otherwise.

That pattern Wagner was one of my first # 12s. Great pans, heavy.

Same pan. To my limited knowledge, the Wagner Sydney O with the Arc Straight configuration would be made previous to using the 4 digit catalog number but instead with the size number, in this case 12, and the pattern identifier A. I was just confused to see it like this.
Obviously not as uncommon as I thought.
