I decided last fall that I really needed to go through all the CI I had bought and stockpiled and see what I actually had. I had ended up with a lot of really nasty stuff. Most were so caked up with decades of crud that It was hard to tell what condition they were in. These 3 came out of the lye bath today so I could put the two nasty hammered pieces I got last week in. The #5 was so sticky I didn't really want to handle it. I don't think I ever noticed that it had a grooved handle. The two #8s were as bad, but with cooked on mostly dried crud. These came from local estate/yard sales, and I can't imagine anyone actually using these in the condition they were in. There is still some crud in the lettering. These were the worst of the worst, with a few left to go. The hammered skillets and a Griswold #10 in the bath now.
