Holy Grail?

That's rust, not crud. No blue enamel there, if there was any to begin with (doubtful).

If a person buys something like that is there a place you can purchase replacement handles? I looked at one today downtown and they want over $100 for it. I like waffles but not that much.

Some older wood handles were just short, painted dowels. Not even tapered, really. Tapered ones, such as this one would have had, would not be too difficult to reproduce if one had the right tools.

One last question. One of my other hobbies is making cheese so I have a bag of citric acid. I saw that someone mention you could use it instead of vinegar for rust removal. Do you have a link to the instructions for that?

I found instructions on a tool cleaning site. It said one half ounce of citric acid powder to every 15 ounces of water. I think I will experiment on an advertising ashtray skillet I found at the scrap yard for $1.
