Strange Handled Erie Long Pan

Hey there, everyone! I ran into this somewhat strange ERIE #9 deep long pan / griddle / heater, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about its age and rarity. It looks a lot like a long pan in the blue book, but I’ve never seen one with this kind of handle, almost as if it was meant to have a bail.

Thanks so much!

It's doubtful this is a bail handle variant of a long pan. Bailed griddles typically had round bolt head attachments, plus bailed long pans aren't seen elsewhere. My guess is someone wanted a long pan with more ergonomic handles and used an Erie long pan as a pattern to make one themselves. I would examine the casting where the handles join the pan to see if I thought there was evidence of a joint having been made between them (in the pattern, not in the actual casting).
