Electrolysis

I got a question about washing after pulling from the tank, are we washing something unseen off that is hazardous? Or is this just a normal washing/rinsing off of unwanted particles ? Washing dishes ? I’m new at the electrolysis world. I did a small pot and it turned out great. Just rinsed scrubbed with scratch pad and seasoned. I’m doing a grizwold roasting pot now.

Thanks in advance for the help

Nothing "toxic". The goal is to remove the residue that remains as the rust is converted to ferrous oxide. Here is a quote from this site about the process:

"The process of electrolysis converts red rust (ferric oxide) to ferrous oxide. The process also both coats and rots the "sacrificial" piece of metal over time, so it needs to be scraped down occasionally, or flipped so that a clean side faces the piece being cleaned, and, eventually, replaced."

The washing allows for a better seasoning process without a ton of black residue that dirties your towels over and over again as you apply and wipe of your seasoning oil.
Hope that helps,
Kyle
