What is This?

I stumbled upon this at a yard sale today, and it has me stumped. I asked the people I bought it from and they said they had it out in the hopes that someone could tell them. I told them that I would let them know if I found out, and so far everyone I asked has been just as perplexed as I am. Please, someone has to know!!!

Waffle iron base

This is a Griswold. Yours looks like it belongs to a Stover.

What Jeffrey said. I see waffle irons without the base for sale all the time. I don't know if I've ever seen it the other way around.

I agree with Doug, I have a Stover tall base, and it has that weird little W shape where the paddle handles rest as well.
