Confirm skillet ID

I have the opportunity to buy a #14 skillet. The current owner says it's a Wagner and has what he says is the orignal box. I think, based on his photos, that it's a Wagner made from a Griswold pattern.

Being basically unfamiliar with this series of skillets, I need confirmation. Also, aproximate age and value would be a big help.

Thanks!

Yup, Wagner-made from Griswold pattern. No "Made In USA" would tend to indicate (very) late 1950s to (very) early 1960s.

It's marked $11.95 on the box. I'd try that first. :)

Hard to say where it falls, collectibly speaking. If it was a marked Wagner from a Wagner pattern, it would be quite valuable if in excellent condition. Being that it's a "de-branded" Griswold, and wasn't made in Erie, most collectors don't consider it a Griswold, either. So, I guess it would be worth whatever a well-made and finished 50 year old #14 is worth. With the box, maybe $100-150 on eBay.

Thank you again. That's in the same ballpark I was thinking.

At any rate, I'm keeping it. The foundry grinding marks are clear and crisp, no obvious pitting and it appears to have been used very little and well taken care of. Once it's out of the lye bath and re-seasoned, I'll decide if it'll be a user or added to the "collection". Either way, I'm pleased as punch. I offered $50 as soon as I saw it and the seller countered with $70. We met in the middle at $60 ... after all of 5 seconds ... box included. :icon_thumbsup:
