Default My first nickel wagner

I found a #7 wagner nickel coated skillet, it is in great shape, except for the nickel is worn away in quite a few places.
When i get ready to season it, do i allow the seasoning to cover the nickle, or do i try to keep it only on the exposed iron?

You would want to apply your initial seasoning to any unplated areas to prevent rust, but there is no real need to season plating, other than, if the cooking surface is plated, and you want to establish a seasoning on it for non-stick purposes. Plating is not inherently non-stick.

Doug
thanks for the response. The inside is beautifully smooth and no plating...the center bottom, the plating is completely gone....the sides and handle has areas of plating and areas that are cast iron...it is a very smooth overall skillet, my thoughts are that seasoning it overall is better than not...i guess my real question is, will the seasoning darken the nickle?

Over time, yes, and no. The seasoning on it will darken, but the nickel will not.
