Default Gem Pan with Sprue and Gate Mark

Any thoughts on the origins of this? Appears to be a sprue mark on top of a gate mark, which leads me to think it may be a re-cast of a gated piece. Nice casting, very crisp. Also, if a re-cast, what was the original pan?

Hard to say what the elongated portion is. Perhaps some kind of runner fed by the sprue. Gatemarks on these are usually on the bottoms of multiple cups. The design was widely copied; no distinctive characteristics to say whose.

Thanks Doug. Didn't occur to me that the gate might be PART of the sprue.
