Has anyone ever seen a Griswold that didn't have the bottom smoothed? The inside walls were smoothed on this but the cooking surface is still rough cast. Very odd.
Most likely just extensive utensil marking has roughed up the bottom. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that sidewall and cooking surface polish grinding were separate steps.
Hard to see clearly but could / might be some rust pitting from years ago?? I restored a skillet one time that you could see where the past owner would take the corner or a spatula and crack the egg yoke in the pan. Yes they did hit the yoke hard, and always on the right side of the skillet.
