Interesting Find

Tried a new locale over the weekend, but didn't find much. An antique store in an old cottage had no iron save for a couple of rusty stacks of overpriced unmarkeds and imports on the front porch rail. Looking down (where you find most iron) at the junk on the porch floor, I spotted a rusty hubcap with some details I recognized despite the crud and oxidation. Failed to take a before photo, but here it is now:

(And the seller told me I could easily clean it up just by burning it in a fire. But, of course, I ignored his advice.)

It was covered with rust and every letter filled to the top with crud that electro and lye both didn't want to budge. I ended up spending Sunday afternoon carefully working each character clean with a dull-ended dental instrument. Ironically, I was watching one on eBay, complete with trivet, on Saturday go for $127.50 when I found this lid.
