Bride's Choice....

This past weekend at the Swap meet my bride found
some cast iron she really wanted. She gave $15 for
this shallow skillet. Looks to have had years of use.
Cook surface is 8 1/2 " . The skillet is amazingly lightweight.
Surprisingly , sits absolutely flat without wobble or spin.
No cracks visible. On the base it has a faintly visible
( i think ) raised "7 1/2 " ? ...almost buried within the acne.
Heats up very quickly on the induction cooktop.

Any ideas on era or foundry ?

This one moved right into the keeper stash. Bride done
good... she loves it.... battle scars and all. Perfect for fried
eggs, hash, quesadilla, tortilla heat up etc.. I didn't try to
talk her out of it. :glutton:

late edit....
upon closer evaluation the raised number & letter at 1800 hrs. appears
to be 7 and M or H. Photo added. No visible gatemark or notches in the
heat ring.

Your Bride picked a good one, and you must have picked a winner too! My wife loves CI too. Makes life easier.

I suspect that there was a bottom gatemark that has been eroded away by the sulfur pitting. I see these referred to as "initial" skillets. Unknown maker, if I'm remembering correctly. Nice, old piece, I have a few skillets and griddles like it myself.
