Smoothing New Iron

Has anyone ever tried to smooth out a newer cast iron piece? I've got a newer Lodge skillet I was thinking of trying to smooth out the interior. Any tips or lessons learned? I was planning on using some type of attachment for my drill to sand/grind down the surface.

I would just sand it using progressively finer grits. Its been done by many. I would be skeptical using power tool IMO, but if your really good with it, why not

Depending on how high you go with the grit of paper, you may find the pan is too smooth for seasoning to stick as well as it should. After sanding pour some vinegar in the pan and it will gently etch the surface over a few hours to give you a subtly porous surface like those found on ancient well used cast iron. And you may find that the drill is slower than you imagined. Good luck!
