Antique Store Skillet

This skillet is at a local antique mall for 20 dollars, very nice light weight casting, smooth cooking surface with swirl marks still visible. There is a lot of crud on the bottom so I can't make out any markings if there are any. The handle looks familiar but I don't remember where I have seen it before. It has a very large incised #8 on the top of handle and two scratch marks on the handle that look vaguely familiar as well. Anyone have an Idea of what is under the crud if anything? I nearly walked out with it just out of curiosity but if there are no markings 20 dollars is a lot to pay for a user when I have a few other users already.
I did however, find a #3 Favorite / Chicago diamond skillet for 6 bucks to add to my #3's collection so I was happy about that.

Too many conflicting characteristics. The bottom of the handle looks like some Lodge, but nothing else does-- no heat ring, incised number on top.
